KKR Achieve Unmatched IPL Milestone with Record-Breaking Win Over SRH
Published on April 4, 2025
Kolkata Knight Riders etched their name in IPL history by becoming the first team to record 20 or more wins against three different franchises, following a dominant victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing edition of the tournament. Playing at home, KKR executed their game plan to perfection, handing SRH a crushing 80-run defeat and marking their second win of the season.
With this emphatic triumph, KKR now holds 20 victories each over Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and an impressive 21 wins over Punjab Kings.
SRH skipper Pat Cummins opted to field first, a decision that initially paid off as they dismissed Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine cheaply, leaving KKR struggling at 16/2. However, skipper Ajinkya Rahane (38 off 27, 1 four and 4 sixes) and young Angkrish Raghuvanshi (50 off 32, 5 fours and 2 sixes) countered with a brisk partnership, shifting the momentum back in KKR’s favor.
Though SRH managed to briefly halt KKR’s progress by removing both set batters, Venkatesh Iyer (60 off 29, 7 fours and 3 sixes) and Rinku Singh (32* off 17, 4 boundaries and a six) took charge. Their 91-run partnership for the fifth wicket helped KKR post a formidable 200/6 in 20 overs.
SRH’ chase never took off, with their top order crumbling during the powerplay. Vaibhav Arora (3/29) and Varun Chakravarthy (3/22) spearheaded the attack. Only Heinrich Klaasen (33 off 21) and Kamindu Mendis (27 off 20) offered brief resistance before SRH folded under pressure.
The win lifts KKR to fifth place on the points table with two wins and two losses. Meanwhile, SRH sit at the bottom, with just one win from four matches.
