Apni Party to Challenge Amended Waqf Act in Supreme Court, Urges Nationwide Support for Minority Religious Rights
Srinagar | April 7, 2025 (RNA): In a strong move against the recently amended Waqf Act, the Apni Party, under the leadership of Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, has decided to challenge the law in the Supreme Court, citing threats to Muslim minority rights and religious freedom in India.
The decision was made during an extraordinary party meeting, where top Apni Party leaders unanimously passed a resolution urging the Government of India and citizens across the country to support the repeal of the controversial law. The party expressed deep concern over the implications of the Waqf Bill, stating that it undermines the spiritual and administrative autonomy of Waqf institutions.
Resolution Excerpt:
“Any reform concerning Waqf institutions must respect their spiritual sanctity, historical purpose, and the fundamental principles of religious freedom. The Apni Party calls for peaceful, democratic resistance and commits to moving the Supreme Court to challenge the amendments.”
During the meeting, Altaf Bukhari strongly condemned the amendments, saying:
“This law threatens the existence and autonomy of Waqf properties, which have historically uplifted the underprivileged and preserved our Islamic heritage. This is not just a Muslim issue—it’s a constitutional matter that concerns every justice-loving Indian.”
He emphasized that the party’s stand is not against the nation, but against injustice, calling upon all Indians—regardless of religion—to stand in solidarity.
“Whether in courtrooms, on the streets, or in Parliament, we will raise our voice. Our faith is in the Constitution, in dialogue, and in India’s democratic spirit,” he added.
