Senior PDP leader and District President Baramulla, Mohammad Rafique Rather, has strongly condemned the derogatory remarks made by MLA Mehraj Malik against the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Calling the comments deeply disrespectful, unacceptable, and condemnable, Rather demanded a public apology from Malik.

Mufti Sahab was a visionary statesman who dedicated his life to serving the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” said Rafique Rather. “His efforts in promoting peace, reconciliation, and democratic values are unmatched and continue to inspire generations across political and ideological lines.”

Rather expressed concern over the deterioration of political discourse, saying that such personal vilification is disgraceful and sets a dangerous precedent.

“The PDP will not tolerate any attempt to tarnish the legacy of a leader who was instrumental in voicing the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.

PDP’s Stand on the Issue

The PDP leader demanded that Mehraj Malik withdraw his statement immediately and issue a public apology. He also called upon all political leaders to uphold the dignity and decorum of public discourse, especially when referring to personalities who have made lasting contributions to the state.

“Mufti Sahab earned respect across party lines and stood for unity, dignity, and democratic dialogue. Disrespecting his memory is an affront to the people he served,” Rather emphasized.

He further stated that the PDP remains united in safeguarding the honour and legacy of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and is prepared to take all democratic and legal steps to ensure such acts of disrespect are not repeated.
