Srinagar, April 11, 2025:
In a strongly worded criticism, Peoples Conference President and Handwara MLA Sajad Lone has accused the National Conference (NC) of deliberately sabotaging a crucial discussion on the Waqf bill during the final days of the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly session.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Lone expressed his frustration over the NC’s conduct in the Assembly, stating that the party, despite holding a brute majority, blocked meaningful debate and engaged in unruly behavior.

“The NC attempted the impossible — being both the ruling and the opposition party at the same time. They turned the Assembly into a playground of chaos,” wrote Lone.

He described scenes from the Assembly as a “free-for-all,” likening the MLAs to “overgrown uncles” jumping on tables, shouting slogans, and tearing papers. He also mocked the Speaker — an NC member — calling him an “unworried principal” who oversaw the disruption with indifference and theatrical resignation.

🔹 Lone’s Key Allegations:

  • NC MLAs disrupted proceedings deliberately to prevent discussion on the Waqf bill.

  • The Speaker (from NC) rejected an adjournment motion on the bill by labeling it sub judice.

  • A no-confidence motion moved by a smaller opposition bloc against the Speaker was not supported by NC, despite their majority.

  • Lone questioned NC’s accountability, stating that they used their majority to enjoy power rather than fulfill responsibilities.

  • He accused NC of using “noise and bedlam” to camouflage what he described as the “mother of all betrayals” — the Waqf betrayal.

“The shouting brigade was NC. The Speaker was NC. The tulips were NC,” said Lone, slamming the party for “forever losing J&K’s chance to support Muslims nationwide” on the Waqf issue.

🧾 Conclusion:

Lone’s remarks sparked fresh political tension in the Valley as he held NC solely responsible for derailing democratic discourse on a matter of religious significance. His comments reflect growing disillusionment among regional parties over the functioning of the current Assembly.
