
DIPR Bandipora Organizes Cultural-Awareness Program Under Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan
BANDIPORA, April 29:
To bolster the ongoing efforts under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan, the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) Bandipora, in collaboration with Cultural Unit, DIPR Srinagar, on Tuesday organized an awareness-cum-cultural programme at the Auditorium Hall of N.M. Higher Secondary School, Kaloosa.
The programme was presided over by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, and saw participation from ADC Bandipora Zaffar Husson Shawl, District Programme Officer ICDS Yaar Ali Khan, District Information Officer Aadil Manzoor Wani, DySP DAR Ahmad Shafee, Excise and Taxation Officer Danishwar Shafi, DySP C.L. Verma, DyCEO Dr. G.M. Pujoo, school principals, and a large gathering of students from various educational institutions.
Call for Family Engagement and Vigilance
In his address, DC Qadri emphasized the critical role of families in preventing drug abuse, urging parents to observe behavioral changes in their children and spend quality time to nurture them in positive directions. He appealed for collective societal action to combat the menace of substance abuse.
Qadri called on all sections of society to raise awareness, identify at-risk individuals, and support the government’s de-addiction and rehabilitation efforts to create a healthier and safer community.
Educational Institutions Key to Awareness
ADC Zaffar Husson Shawl presented an overview of the Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan, emphasizing its multi-pronged approach—from awareness and education to rehabilitation and community mobilization. He urged for student involvement and institutional accountability, especially through panchayat-level IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) activities.
DIPR and Police Highlight Awareness & Enforcement
In his welcome note, District Information Officer Aadil Manzoor Wani explained the objective of the IEC campaign, focused on raising awareness across every corner of the district.
DySP C.L. Verma highlighted the initiatives of the police in tackling drug networks and detailed the social, economic, and medical consequences of drug abuse, encouraging youth to participate in sports and productive activities.
Medical Perspective and Community Rehabilitation
Dr. Anjum Reshi, Medical Officer at the Drug De-Addiction Centre, Bandipora, called for a collaborative approach involving parents, teachers, and civil society to curb addiction. She urged individuals to seek rehabilitation support without fear or stigma, emphasizing the availability of district-level services.
Art, Culture, and Youth Engagement
The event featured emotionally powerful skits by artists from Cultural Unit DIPR Srinagar and students of HSS Mantrigam, vividly depicting the devastating effects of drug abuse.
Students also presented speeches and poems, reinforcing the message of a drug-free society.
A pledge ceremony, led by Cultural Unit artists, was held where participants affirmed their commitment to fighting substance abuse.
Outstanding student contributors were honored with cash prizes for their performances and awareness efforts.
