
Baramulla Achieves ‘TB Mukt’ Status in 242 Panchayats
BARAMULLA, April 29:
In a significant milestone under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), Baramulla district has declared 242 out of 402 panchayats as ‘TB Mukt Panchayat 2024’, showcasing remarkable progress in the fight against tuberculosis.
Among the recognized panchayats, 106 earned Silver Status, while 136 achieved Bronze Status—a testament to their sustained efforts in TB detection, treatment, and awareness.
Award Ceremony at Dak Bungalow, Baramulla
The achievement was celebrated at a special felicitation ceremony organized by the District Tuberculosis Control Society, under the supervision of the State TB Cell, Directorate of Health Services Kashmir, held at Dak Bungalow Baramulla.
Presiding over the event, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, commended the dedicated efforts of frontline health workers, officers, ASHAs, and volunteers, especially in reaching remote and difficult terrain.
“This recognition is a reflection of Baramulla’s unwavering commitment to eradicating TB. I’m confident that by 2025, all remaining panchayats will also achieve TB Mukt status,” he said, highlighting the role of community participation and schemes like Nikshay Poshan Yojana in supporting TB patients.
CMO and DTO Laud Coordinated Health Response
Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Mastoora Iqbal, praised the collaborative work of field-level health workers, ASHAs, and TB programme staff, emphasizing the need for continued efforts in active case finding, contact tracing, and treatment adherence.
“TB is both preventable and curable. With consistent community involvement, we can eliminate it entirely,” she remarked.
District Tuberculosis Officer, Dr. Hafeezulah Ganaie, and other senior officials shared data-backed insights, best practices, and future strategies for achieving a TB-Free Baramulla by 2025, ahead of the national target.

The event concluded with the felicitation of BMOs, ASHAs, health officers, and field workers for their relentless service in TB control efforts.
Also present were Medical Superintendent GMC Baramulla, Dr. Parvaiz Ahmad, along with Block Medical Officers, PRI representatives, and other stakeholders from the district TB control network.
