JAMMU, April 29:
In response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack and unprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistan, the Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) has announced the postponement of all scheduled party rallies, including the May 1st public rally in Jammu.

The decision was taken during an emergency meeting chaired by JKPCC Chief Shri Tariq Hameed Karra, convened in Jammu to assess the security situation, especially in the border areas of the Jammu region.

Top Congress Leaders Attend High-Level Meeting

Prominent leaders present included AICC General Secretary & CLP Leader Shri G.A. Mir, Working President Raman Bhalla, Former MP Ch. Lal Singh, Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, and other senior functionaries like Ved Mahajan, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma, Yash Pal Kundal, Iftkhar Ahmed, and Hira Lal Pandita.

The leadership unanimously decided to defer all major gatherings temporarily and instructed District Congress Committees (DCCs) to maintain close contact with local cadres and residents in vulnerable regions.

“There is palpable unrest among border residents due to frequent ceasefire violations. The party stands firmly with the people and our security forces. A befitting response to terrorism and Pakistan is imperative,” said the leadership in a joint statement.

Congress Urges National Unity, Condemns Cross-Border Violence

The party strongly condemned Pakistan’s actions, accusing it of orchestrating cross-border terrorism and ceasefire breaches, and expressed solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam attack, calling it “an attack on humanity.”

JKPCC lauded the united response from citizens of all religions and regions, who stood in defiance of terror. The party praised the bravery of tourist guide Syed Adil Shah and others who assisted tourists during the Pahalgam incident, highlighting their courage and the region’s tradition of hospitality.

Appreciation for Rahul Gandhi’s Visit

The meeting also acknowledged Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s swift visit to Kashmir, where he met the victims and extended condolences, underlining the party’s commitment to standing with the people during crises.

The party appealed to the public to remain vigilant, support the administration and security agencies, and stay united in the face of adversity.
