Tarachand Welcomes Centre’s Decision on Caste Census, Calls It a Victory for Congress’ Fight for Social Justice
Jammu, April 30:
Former Deputy Chief Minister and Working President of Jammu & Kashmir Congress, Tarachand, has welcomed the Central Government’s announcement to conduct a nationwide caste-based census, describing it as a major win for the Congress Party’s long-standing campaign for social justice.
In a statement released today, Tarachand credited Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for persistently championing this cause. He said the Centre’s recent move validates the vision and consistent efforts of Rahul Gandhi, who has long advocated for caste census as a tool for equitable development.
Tarachand highlighted that the Congress Party has repeatedly committed to this issue in its election manifestos, and it was the first to implement caste-based census in Telangana after coming to power in the state.
Describing the caste census as an “X-ray of the nation,” Tarachand said it is essential for a new development paradigm that ensures equal rights and fair access to government welfare schemes for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). He emphasized the need for comprehensive socio-economic datato address disparities and deliver justice to marginalized communities.
He further stated that conducting the census is just the first step, and the data derived from it will serve as the foundation for future policy decisions. Tarachand urged the Central Government to study the Telangana model of caste enumeration and adopt a similar approach at the national level.
Concluding his remarks, Tarachand said, “Rahul Gandhi has persistently raised the demand for caste census on every platform. His vision has finally been acknowledged. We thank the government and urge them to ensure its swift and effective implementation.”
