JKCSF Supports CM Omar Abdullah’s Call to Protect Press Freedom on World Press Freedom Day
Srinagar, May 03 (RNA):
On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) extended its full support to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s appeal for safeguarding press freedom, describing it as a crucial pillar of a thriving democracy.
JKCSF Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani lauded journalists working across Jammu and Kashmir for their courage and commitment in reporting the truth, often under hostile and dangerous conditions. “Their role in upholding democracy, transparency, and accountability is indispensable,” Wani stated.
He echoed the CM’s concerns and emphasized that protecting the media must go beyond statements—it requires tangible action from governments, institutions, and society. Wani also called for an end to all forms of harassment, censorship, and intimidation faced by journalists, urging collective responsibility to create a free and secure working environment for the press.
The JKCSF reaffirmed its commitment to defending press freedom, supporting independent journalism, and promoting justice for media professionals who face challenges in the line of duty.
