  • PDP MLA from Kupwara, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, has submitted a Private Member’s Bill seeking a complete ban on liquor in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The bill, set to be introduced in the upcoming budget session of the J&K Assembly, proposes prohibition on the advertisement, sale, purchase, consumption, and manufacture of alcoholic beverages in the Union Territory.
  • Mir warned that the rising alcohol consumption poses a serious threat to society, stressing the need for strict legislation to curb the trend. The bill also proposes harsh penalties, including imprisonment and fines, for violations.

World Red Cross Day Observed with Enthusiasm in Udhampur

Udhampur, May 08:
World Red Cross Day was today celebrated with great fervor at District Udhampur, where Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai graced the event as the chief guest. The observance aligns with national efforts to recognize and promote the humanitarian principles of the Red Cross.

The programme, organized by the District Red Cross Society, witnessed participation from several officials including IAS Probationer Seerat Baji, District Social Welfare Officer Kanika Gupta, staff members, and enthusiastic students.

A symposium competition themed “On the Side of Humanity” was the highlight of the event, with ten students from different educational institutions passionately presenting their views on the importance of humanitarian service and unity.

DC Saloni Rai, in her address, underscored the vital role of Red Cross in promoting compassion and solidarity. She emphasized that the need of the hour is to foster unity, resolve conflicts amicably, and spread the message of humanity. She urged the youth to become ambassadors of humanity and contribute to building a progressive and united India.

  • 🥇 1st Position: Samriti Sharma – Govt. Higher Secondary School, Tikri

  • 🥈 2nd Position: Swashti – Govt. Higher Secondary School, Jaganoo

  • 🥉 3rd Position: Simran Sharma – Govt. Higher Secondary School, Chak Rakhwalan

Rinku Khanna and Jyoti served as the judges for the competition. The chief guest later distributed certificates of participation to all contestants, appreciating their efforts and encouraging them to carry forward the spirit of Red Cross.
