India Confirms Ceasefire with Pakistan Effective from 5 PM IST
Published on May 10, 2025
- New Delhi, May 10, 2025:
In a significant diplomatic development, India has confirmed a mutual ceasefire agreement with Pakistan, set to take effect from 5:00 PM IST today. The agreement marks a step toward easing recent hostilities along the border and across all domains—land, air, and sea.
India’s Foreign Secretary, Shri Vikram Misri, issued a statement detailing the process that led to the agreement. “Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) called Indian DGMO at 15:35 hours earlier this afternoon. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time today.”
He further added, “Instructions have been given on both sides to give effect to this understanding. The Directors General of Military Operations will talk again on the 12th of May at 1200 hours.”
The announcement comes in the wake of heightened tensions marked by drone sightings, shelling, and retaliatory strikes across the Line of Control and International Border. Both nations had suffered casualties and infrastructural damage in recent days.
Officials stated that the move toward ceasefire was facilitated through backchannel diplomacy and high-level military coordination, aimed at avoiding further escalation and restoring regional peace.
Security forces on both sides have been instructed to strictly adhere to the ceasefire terms. However, vigilance along the borders remains high.
The international community has welcomed the de-escalation and urged both nations to continue engaging in dialogue to address long-standing concerns.
Further developments, especially following the scheduled talks on May 12 at 12:00 PM IST, are awaited.
