AIP Senior Leader Firdous Baba Terms India-Pakistan Ceasefire a Historic Positive Step
Srinagar, May 10, 2025:
Senior Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) leader and spokesperson Firdous Baba has welcomed the ceasefire agreement announced between India and Pakistan, calling it a “historic and positive step” towards lasting peace and regional stability.
Firdous Baba praised the diplomatic and strategic maturity displayed by the Government of India in facilitating the ceasefire, which is scheduled to take effect from 5 PM IST today. He stated that the move not only reflects India’s commitment to peace but also demonstrates its resolve to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens.
“The exemplary acumen shown by the Government of India in bringing back normalcy is commendable. The entire region was on edge due to the escalation in cross-border hostilities. The tragic Pahalgam massacre, in which innocent tourists lost their lives, had already shaken the conscience of the nation,” Baba remarked.
He added that escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors had become a cause of concern for peace-loving people on both sides of the border. The ceasefire, he said, is a step in the right direction, aiming to preserve human life and open doors for further diplomatic dialogue.
Highlighting the importance of the move, Baba said that appropriate steps against terrorism and initiatives to restore peace must continue with the same momentum. He called on all stakeholders to prioritize dialogue, de-escalation, and regional development over conflict.
The statement comes shortly after India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced the mutual ceasefire following a DGMO-level agreement with Pakistan.
Further updates on the situation are expected following scheduled DGMO-level talks on May 12 at 12 PM.
