NEW DELHI, MAY 10:
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued a strong advisory to all media houses, cautioning against the misuse of Civil Defence air raid siren sounds in their programs and broadcasts.

According to the directive, these siren sounds—typically used during emergencies—must be used only for community awareness and public safety campaigns. The Ministry emphasized that indiscriminate or sensational use of such alerts in media content can lead to unnecessary panic, confusion, and anxiety among the general public.

The advisory calls for responsible broadcasting practices, urging channels to strictly refrain from deploying air raid sirens unless their usage is part of a legitimate awareness initiative approved by concerned authorities.

“Such sounds are for alerting the public in actual emergencies. Misuse may lead to chaos and undermine trust in real warnings,” the advisory noted.

The MHA has also requested all broadcast and digital platforms to review their existing content and ensure compliancewith the advisory to uphold public safety and prevent misinformation.
