Against All Odds: DH Bandipora Performs First-Ever Life-Saving C-Hysterectomy
BANDIPORA, MAY 10:
In a landmark moment for healthcare in North Kashmir, District Hospital (DH) Bandipora has successfully conducted its first-ever complex caesarean hysterectomy (C-hysterectomy) — a high-risk, life-saving surgical procedure — setting a new benchmark in emergency maternal care at the district level.
The female patient, whose identity has been withheld for privacy, had a critical obstetric history, including three previous D&C procedures and a second lower segment caesarean section (LSCS). During surgery, doctors diagnosed her with complete placenta previa and placenta accreta — two rare and life-threatening conditions that can result in massive hemorrhage and fatal complications if not promptly addressed.
Demonstrating exceptional skill and composure, the surgical team at DH Bandipora performed a successful caesarean hysterectomy, leading to the safe birth of a healthy baby girl and stabilization of the mother.
The theatre team was led by Dr. Zamir Lone (Consultant Gynaecologist) and included Dr. Sheikh Firdous (DGO), Dr. Bashir Ahmad (Surgeon), Dr. Iqbal Fateh (Anaesthetist), and Mr. Shahid Rasool (Theatre Technician) along with the dedicated OT support team. Their teamwork, expertise, and swift decision-making played a crucial role in this life-saving intervention.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Masrat Iqbal Wani commended the entire team, stating:
“This is a historic milestone for District Hospital Bandipora. The successful handling of such a complicated case is a testament to the skill and dedication of our medical professionals.”
This successful operation not only underscores the growing capabilities of DH Bandipora but also reinforces public trust in district-level hospitals for advanced obstetric care and emergency surgery.
