MLA Gulmarg Inaugurates Goodluck Champions Trophy and Power Projects in Kunzer
Kunzer, May 17, 2025:
In a remarkable push towards youth empowerment and infrastructure development, Hon’ble MLA Gulmarg, Mr. Farooq Ahmad Shah, today launched two key initiatives in Kunzer, marking a new era of progress for the constituency.
The day began with the grand inauguration of the Goodluck Champions Trophy at Kunzer Sports Ground, drawing an enthusiastic response from youth and sports lovers across the region. A total of 64 teams from across the constituency are participating in the tournament. The inaugural match, played between Hardushoora and Gonipora, saw Hardushoora clinch victory by 6 wickets.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Farooq Ahmad Shah emphasized the vital role of sports in youth development:
“Youth are our greatest strength. Engaging them in sports and cultural activities helps channel their potential constructively and fosters unity,” he stated.
He also announced several sports development projects, including:

Modern sports infrastructure across all blocks of Gulmarg constituency

Establishment of an Indoor Stadium

Allocation of ₹1 crore for the development of Tangmarg Cricket Ground
Senior administrative officers including SDM Gulmarg, Tehsildar Kunzer, and Executive Officer Municipal Committee Tangmarg/Kunzer were present on the occasion.
Power Infrastructure Boost with 6.3 MW Receiving Station at Mulgam
Later in the day, Mr. Shah inaugurated a 6.3 Mega Watt Receiving Station at Mulgam, Kunzer, constructed at a cost of ₹2.87 Crores. The project is expected to significantly improve electricity supply, especially during harsh winters when power issues intensify.
He further informed the public about the ongoing upgrade of the 33KV line from Nehalpora to Tangmarg, with a separate allocation of ₹3.80 Crores, aimed at enhancing regional power connectivity and reliability.
