Molvi Imran Reza Ansari Discusses Muharram Preparations with LG Manoj Sinha; Seeks Revival of Historic Ashura Procession Route
Kashmir | June 10, 2025:
In advance of the upcoming Muharram observances, Molvi Imran Reza Ansari — President of the All Jammu & Kashmir Shia Association and General Secretary of the J&K Peoples Conference — met with Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to emphasize the need for streamlined administrative coordination and essential service readiness throughout the Valley.
During the high-level interaction, Molvi Ansari advocated for the revival of the traditional Ashura (10th Muharram) procession route from Abi Guzar to Zadibal, a route of profound historical and religious significance for the Shia community.
He proposed the formation of war rooms at district headquarters including Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama, Bandipora, and Baramulla to ensure real-time coordination. A call was also made for appointing dedicated nodal officers in each district to oversee execution of religious arrangements and to release special funds directly to Deputy Commissioners to avoid bureaucratic delays.
Infrastructure concerns were also front and center. Ansari highlighted the urgent need to repair roads and wooden bridges — particularly in the Dal area — and sought permissions for short-term tenders to handle last-minute infrastructure needs. He further requested resolution of a pending compensation dispute involving a dilapidated structure in Alamgari Bazaar.
The Shia leader flagged critical shortages in CAPD supplies, particularly rice and sugar essential for religious offerings (Niyaz), and reported severe water issues in areas like Zadibal, Bagwanpora, and parts of Dal. He suggested the deployment of water tankers with a fixed operational plan to mitigate service disruptions.
Among health and transport demands, Molvi Ansari suggested that compact ambulances be used during processions to maintain crowd flow, and asked for advance placement of essential medicines and medical staff in Shia-majority areas. Other suggestions included the introduction of smart bus services, distribution of subsidised firewood, and the adoption of preventive measures to maintain communal harmony during the emotionally significant days.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha acknowledged all concerns and assured full administrative attention towards facilitating peaceful, safe, and respectful Muharram commemorations across Jammu & Kashmir.
