New Delhi, May 8, 2025: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) has issued an urgent advisory to all Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms and media streaming services operating in India to immediately discontinue any web series, films, songs, podcasts, or other media content originating from Pakistan.

This directive, issued today, cites national security concerns and references Part III of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, and Rule 3(1)(b) of Part II of the IT Rules, 2021.

The advisory comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 and reported shelling at the Line of Control. The government highlights that several terrorist attacks in India have had cross-border linkages with Pakistan-based state and non-state actors.

The order emphasizes that, in the interest of national security, all such Pakistan-origin content, regardless of whether it is available on a subscription-based model or otherwise, must be removed.

This move follows reports of Indian digital platforms restricting access to the social media handles of several Pakistani celebrities within India.
