
Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari Takes Over as Vice Chief of the Air Staff, Indian Air Force

Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari, PVSM, AVSM, VM has officially assumed charge as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff of the Indian Air Force on May 2, 2025.
A distinguished officer with over 3600 flying hours, Air Marshal Tiwari began his journey at the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun, later graduating from the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasalawith the prestigious President’s Gold Medal in June 1985. He was commissioned as a Fighter Pilot in the IAF on 7th June 1986.
Air Marshal Tiwari is a Qualified Flying Instructor, Experimental Test Pilot, and a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College, USA. He has served as Directing Staff at the IAF Test Pilots’ School and the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. His operational roles include flight testing of LCA (Light Combat Aircraft) and instrumental contribution to the Final Operational Clearance (FOC) of the aircraft in 2019 as Project Director (Flight Test) at the National Flight Test Centre.
Notably, he played a pivotal role in operationalising the Litening Laser Designation Pod during the Kargil War in 1999. He also served as Air Attaché at the Indian Embassy in Paris from 2013 to 2016.
Before taking over as Vice Chief, he held the position of Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Air Command.
