
Ajaz Jan Visits Poonch Border Areas After Deadly Cross-Border Firing; Demands ₹10 Lakh Compensation for Victims’ Families

In the aftermath of the deadly cross-border shelling by Pakistani forces in Poonch district, MLA Haveli Constituency Ajaz Jan visited the affected border areas to assess the damage, meet with victims, and ensure relief measures are underway. The attack claimed the lives of 13 civilians and injured over 60 people.
During his visit to Sathra and other impacted villages, Jan ensured the immediate relocation of displaced families to Government Polytechnic College, where shelter and relief have been arranged. The senior National Conference leaderdemanded that the government provide ₹10 lakh compensation to the families of the deceased and ₹1 lakh to each injured civilian.
Jan emphasized the need for prompt ration supply and directed the Tehsil Supply Officers of Poonch and Mandi to act swiftly. He also announced the restoration of internet services in Sabjiyan area, easing communication for distressed locals.
The MLA lauded the District Administration, including DC Poonch, SSP, and Additional SP, for their rapid response. He acknowledged Fazal Hussain and Ch. Shabir, former Sarpanches, for coordinating food and aid distribution on the ground.
Further, Jan directed Tehsildars of Poonch and Mandi to deploy Naib Tehsildars for damage assessment and active participation in relief efforts. He also contacted the Health Minister to ensure uninterrupted medical supplies in the region.
In his statement, Jan praised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s leadership, affirming that necessary state-level support is being mobilized. “We are committed to ensuring every affected family receives due assistance and dignity in these testing times,” he said.
