Altaf Bukhari Voices Alarm Over Plunging Tourist Arrivals Post-Pahalgam Attack, Urges Relief for Affected Stakeholders
Srinagar, May 4 (RNA):
Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari has raised deep concern over the steep drop in tourist footfall in Kashmir following the recent tragic terror incident in Pahalgam. He highlighted the serious economic strain being faced by small-scale stakeholders in the tourism sector, many of whom are struggling to repay bank loans and survive the downturn.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Bukhari shared,
“Taxi drivers and other stakeholders connected with tourism are grappling with distress as tourist arrivals have drastically declined since the unfortunate attack in Pahalgam.”
He added that several small business operators had taken loans to start or expand their tourism-related ventures, expecting stable incomes. “But their hopes have been shattered, and now they are unable to even manage their EMIs,” he noted.
In a heartfelt appeal, Bukhari urged banking institutions to proactively look into possible relief measures.
“These affected individuals urgently need support and compassionate handholding to navigate this difficult phase,” he emphasized.
The appeal comes as concerns grow over the broader impact of security incidents on Kashmir’s fragile tourism economy—especially for grassroots-level operators such as taxi drivers, guesthouse owners, and travel guides.
