Baramulla witnessed a landmark moment in its sporting history with the grand launch of the month-long sports festival “Varmul Gindo” 2025. Held across twelve venues in the district, the event brings together more than 1600 athletes competing in over 20 sports disciplines, including football, basketball, handball, cricket, hockey, and athletics. For the first time ever, the festival also features niche categories like fencing, billiards, powerlifting, bodybuilding, and women’s rugby. Inaugurated by the GOC of the Dagger Division as the chief guest, the opening ceremony drew a crowd of over 2000 spectators, including community leaders, dignitaries, and sports enthusiasts. Organized in collaboration with the Indian Army, J&K Sports Council, and District Sports Association Baramulla, “Varmul Gindo” is being hailed as a major youth empowerment initiative. Participants and officials lauded the festival’s role in offering young athletes a platform to showcase their talents, build sportsmanship, and stay away from harmful habits like drug abuse.
