Block Diwas Held at Noorkha Block: Public Raises Key Developmental Issues, DC Baramulla Issues On-Spot Directions
Baramulla, April 09: Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, presided over a Block Diwas programme at Noorkha Block in Boniyar Tehsil, witnessing enthusiastic public participation. Local residents put forth a range of developmental demands and grievances before the district administration.
Key Public Demands
Among the foremost concerns raised were issues related to road connectivity, particularly the macadamization of inner link roads like Chala to Noorkha. Locals also sought promotion of Vijitop Gagward as a tourist destination and demanded the construction of huts and other tourism infrastructure to support regional tourism.
The upgradation of the Government High School Bimyar to Higher Secondary level was another major demand aimed at enhancing access to senior secondary education in the area.
In addition, drinking water shortages in some habitations were highlighted, with appeals for timely completion of PHE schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Residents also called for the establishment of ration depots in underserved localities.
Healthcare and Infrastructure Concerns
On healthcare, demands included deployment of a veterinary doctor at Phelipora, provision of an ambulance, and posting of lab technician and night staff at PHC Bimyar. Calls were also made for linking the irrigation pump at Naganari with Ijjara and for the development of a local playground to promote recreational activities.
DC’s Immediate Response and Assurances
In response, DC Minga Sherpa issued multiple on-spot directions to the concerned departments. The Executive Engineer PHE was asked to accelerate work on ongoing water schemes and ensure unconnected habitations are covered on priority.
The CA&PD department was directed to explore the feasibility of establishing additional ration stores to serve the population efficiently.
For educational demands, the Zonal Education Officer was instructed to submit a proposal for the upgradation of High School Bimyar to Higher Secondary level for official consideration.
Progress on Road and Tourism Projects
On road development, the DC shared that PMGSY Phase 4 is in progress, with DPRs for around 40 roads in Sub Division Uri already submitted. He directed engineers to give priority to roads highlighted during the Block Diwas under the CND Scheme. He also assured that the Hilan to Hakhpatri road would be developed to enhance tourism in the region.
Healthcare Upgrades and Future Commitment
Addressing healthcare issues, DC Sherpa assured provision of an ambulance to PHC Bimyar through CSR funding, and noted that staffing needs are under review for swift resolution.
Concluding the event, DC Minga Sherpa reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to inclusive, responsive governance, assuring the people that all genuine issues raised would be addressed promptly and efficiently.
