
CM Omar Abdullah Holds Emergency Meeting to Review Border Situation Amid Escalating Shelling

In response to the escalating cross-border shelling across Jammu and Kashmir’s frontier districts, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today convened an emergency video conference with Deputy Commissioners of all affected districts to assess ground realities and preparedness measures.
The meeting, attended by top officials including Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary Dheeraj Gupta, and the Divisional Commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu, focused on streamlining relief, evacuation, and medical aid in vulnerable areas. DCs from border districts like Poonch, Rajouri, Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora participated.
To strengthen immediate response, the CM announced a Contingency Fund allocation of Rs 5 crore to each border district and Rs 2 crore for other districts. He stressed that frontline districts must be prioritized, and directed officers to expedite the construction of shelters and bunkers, ensure stockpiling of food and medical supplies, and mobilize ambulances for quick evacuation of the injured.
Highlighting the need for a robust healthcare system, Omar Abdullah instructed the Health Department to ensure availability of doctors, paramedics, medicines, and blood reserves, especially in hospitals close to the LoC.
Expressing sorrow over the civilian casualties, he urged officers to provide immediate relief and ensure vacant administrative posts like Tehsildars are filled without delay for seamless coordination.
The CM also emphasized countering misinformation during these sensitive times and urged the public to rely on official updates only.
Deputy Commissioners assured the CM that emergency protocols were in place, and they were actively monitoring the situation on the ground, ready to respond to any escalation.
