AICC Session: Congress Adopts ‘Nyay Path’ Resolution, Blasts BJP Over Economy, Foreign Policy & Farmers’ Betrayal

Ahmedabad, April 9: On the final day of the AICC session, the Indian National Congress adopted the ‘Nyay Path’ resolution sharply criticizing the BJP-led central government for its failures in foreign policy, economic management, and neglect of farmers’ interests.

The resolution, covering key issues such as agriculture, economy, foreign affairs, social justice, and gender equality, strongly accused the BJP of weakening India’s global standing and pursuing divisive domestic politics under the guise of diplomacy.

Foreign Policy Under Fire

The Congress slammed the government’s foreign policy as “weak-kneed and compromised,” alleging it was shaped more by personal branding than national interest. The party contrasted this with previous Congress governments that, according to the resolution, upheld principled and visionary diplomacy focused on global balance and peaceful resolutions.

The resolution cited China’s continued occupation of Indian territory in Eastern Ladakh since 2020 as a major failure, along with the construction of the world’s largest dam on the Brahmaputra by China, raising alarm for Assam and Northeastern states.

Concerns were also raised about rising radicalism in Bangladesh and India’s silence on the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza amid the Israel-Palestine conflict. The party reiterated its long-standing support for a peaceful resolution and a separate Palestinian state in accordance with UN resolutions.

Indo-US Relations and Trade Concerns

While the Congress reaffirmed its support for strong ties with the U.S., it criticized the current government for compromising national interests. The resolution noted that India was publicly labeled a “Tariff Abuser” during the PM’s U.S. visit, and that Indian migrants faced inhumane treatment. It highlighted the imposition of a 27% tariff on Indian exports to the U.S., which could significantly hurt domestic industries.

The party called for a balanced and constructive negotiation strategy that places national interest above all and includes all political stakeholders.

Recommitment to Legal MSP for Farmers

On agriculture, the Congress reiterated its commitment to providing a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP). The resolution promised MSP at 50% above cost and steps toward a debt-free future for farmers. It also recalled Congress’s legacy of launching the Green and White Revolutions and introducing pro-farmer policies post-independence.

‘Sinking Economy’ and Growing Inequality

Expressing deep concern over what it called a “sinking economy,” the resolution pointed to rising inflation, falling purchasing power, and an increasing wealth gap. It cited data showing that the richest 10% of Indians now hold 70% of the country’s wealth, while the bottom 50% own just 6.4%.

The Congress also criticized recent fuel and LPG price hikes, calling them a burden on the common household. It cited the ₹50 LPG cylinder hike and ₹2 increase in petrol/diesel excise duty despite a sharp fall in global crude prices to $65 per barrel.

Unemployment Crisis

Highlighting the unemployment crisis, the party described it as the “biggest epidemic” facing the nation, with joblessness at a 45-year high. With 30 lakh government vacancies unfilled, the resolution warned of a “demographic disaster” as educated youth turn to drugs due to lack of opportunities.

Organisational Focus for 2025

Declaring 2025 as the Year of Organisational Empowerment, the Congress vowed to strengthen its base and take on what it termed “arrogant and oppressive” forces. The resolution emphasized rebuilding the party’s structure to effectively counter the ruling regime.
