DC Baramulla Visits Uri Subdivision to Oversee Relief Efforts for Border-Shelling Victims

Baramulla, May 11: In response to the ongoing cross-border shelling, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Shri Minga Sherpa conducted an extensive visit to Uri Subdivision to assess the relief efforts for families affected by the shelling along the Line of Control (LoC).

Accompanied by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Uri and senior officers from various departments, the Deputy Commissioner inspected key relief centres, including Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Uri, Control Room Uri, Government Degree College (GDC) Uri, and GDC Boniyar, which have been converted into temporary shelters for displaced families.

At SDH Uri, the DC reviewed the hospital’s emergency preparedness, staffing, and medical facilities, stressing the need for continuous medical services to cater to the displaced population. He directed that healthcare services remain operational around the clock to address any medical emergencies.

Additionally, the DC visited the Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution (CA&PD) food store to check on the availability and distribution of essential supplies such as ration and food items for the affected families. He instructed officials to ensure timely delivery and maintain an adequate stock to meet the needs of displaced individuals.

During his visit, the DC interacted with the displaced families, offering them assurance of full administrative support. He directed the concerned authorities to prioritize food, bedding, sanitation, and medical aid to ensure the welfare of the affected population.

The DC also met with SDRF volunteers working on the ground, commending their tireless efforts in assisting the displaced families and maintaining order amidst the ongoing crisis.

Shri Sherpa also called for a comprehensive damage assessment of the property, livestock, and infrastructure affected by the shelling. He directed the SDM Uri to submit a detailed report to ensure that the affected families receive compensation and necessary support promptly.

It is important to note that a majority of families from vulnerable border locations have been moved to District Headquarters Baramulla, where the district administration has arranged shelter, food, medical services, and sanitation facilities.

Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the residents of the border areas, the DC emphasized that the district administration is taking all necessary measures to provide continuous support and relief to the affected families during this difficult time.
