New Delhi, May 12 – In a detailed media briefing held today, the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) emphasized the Indian Army’s coordinated air defence strategies during the recent military operations in collaboration with the Indian Air Force (IAF), particularly under Operation Sindoor.

Opening the briefing, the DGMO expressed gratitude to Air Marshal Bharti, and elaborated on the integrated air defence operations conducted jointly with the IAF. He noted that while the topic was briefly touched upon yesterday, today’s address aimed to provide a deeper perspective.

He pointed out the evolving nature of terrorism in recent years, with increasing attacks on innocent civilians who are often unable to defend themselves. Notable examples include the Shiv Khori Mandir attack in 2024 and the Pahalgam incident in April 2025, which reflect a dangerous shift in terror trends.

The DGMO explained that India’s targeted strikes on terror infrastructure were conducted without crossing the Line of Control or International Border, anticipating that any retaliation from Pakistan would be launched from their side of the border. Hence, Indian forces had prepared a layered air defence grid well in advance.

This defensive setup included counter-UAV systems, electronic warfare capabilities, and air defence weaponry, all operating in seamless coordination with the Indian Air Force. As a result, multiple Pakistani airstrikes attempted during the nights of May 9 and 10 were effectively thwarted.

The DGMO stated that unlike the damaged Pakistani airfields, India’s airbases remain fully operational. Pakistan’s drone-based attacks were also neutralized, with remaining UAVs being shot down by shoulder-fired air defence weapons.

He lauded the Border Security Force (BSF) for their valiant contribution, from the top leadership to the jawans stationed at the forward posts. The BSF’s C-UAS systems played a vital role in strengthening the multi-tiered air defence shield.

Quoting a popular saying, he said, “Jab hosla buland ho, to manzil bhi kadam chumti hai.”

In conclusion, the DGMO highlighted the synergy among all three Services in executing Operation Sindoor. He acknowledged the unwavering support from the Government, various departments, and the 140 crore citizens of India, whose prayers and encouragement fueled the success of the mission.

Jai Hind.
