
Ex-Servicemen in Poonch Volunteer for Emergency Services, Meet DC to Discuss Welfare and Border Safety

In a powerful display of patriotism and community commitment, a delegation of Ex-Servicemen led by Subedar Major (Retd) Akhlaq Khan, District President, and Captain (Retd) Mohammad Shokat Choudhary, District Vice President, met Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal today to extend voluntary support for emergency and disaster response efforts across the district.
The delegation also presented a series of key demands aimed at improving the welfare of retired armed forces personnel and enhancing security in border regions.
Key Demands Raised:

Construction of individual and community bunkers in border villages vulnerable to cross-border shelling.

Provision of advanced medical facilities and healthcare support for veterans and their families.

Implementation and fast-tracking of welfare schemes under the Sainik Welfare Board.
The veterans also offered to assist the district administration and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) during natural disasters, emergencies, and border-related crises. Several ex-servicemen have already volunteered by submitting their names at the Zila Sainik Welfare Officer’s office in Poonch.

DC Vikas Kundal commended the ex-servicemen for their continued sense of duty and selfless service even after retirement. He assured them of complete administrative support and stressed that their military experience and discipline are valuable resources for the district in times of need.
“The willingness of veterans to serve again, this time in civil emergencies, is a true inspiration,” said the Deputy Commissioner.
This interaction marks a growing collaboration between the Ex-Servicemen community and civil administration, reinforcing public safety and welfare in border-sensitive regions like Poonch.
