FCIK Forms New Advisory Committee to Restore Functionality and Push for Fresh Elections
Srinagar, May 04 (RNA):
In a major move aimed at reviving the functioning of the Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK), an extraordinary General Members Meeting held at FCIK headquarters has led to the dissolution of both the existing Election Commission and the Advisory Committee.
A newly formed Advisory Committee has now been established, including elected Presidents from organized industrial estates and District Presidents representing the unorganized sector across Kashmir. This Committee will work in tandem with outgoing President Mr. Shahid Kamili to ensure continued representation and smooth transition until fresh elections are held. Mr. Kamili will continue as the interim representative of the organisation during this process.
The high-stakes meeting witnessed participation from hundreds of entrepreneurs across the Valley, along with Presidents of various industrial and district associations. Members voiced deep concern over the prolonged deadlock and dysfunction within FCIK, caused primarily by the stalled election process. They also highlighted how the absence of a functional body had resulted in critical industrial issues going unaddressed.
Several members raised allegations against the dissolved Election Commission, citing constitutional violations, lack of fair representation, and misconduct. These issues led to repeated court interventions and the halting of the election process. In response, members passed four major resolutions unanimously:
-
Dissolution of Existing Advisory Committee:
The earlier five-member Advisory Committee was immediately dissolved. -
Dissolution of Election Commission:
The Election Commission was disbanded and directed to submit all official records and files to the FCIK office. -
Formation of New Advisory Committee:
A new body comprising elected Presidents from industrial estates and district associations was constituted to coordinate with the outgoing President during the interim phase. -
Mandate for Fresh Elections:
The new Advisory Committee has been tasked with forming a new Election Commission within two months, as per the FCIK Constitution. To ensure transparency, the Committee may invite external observers and request monitoring from government authorities.
Attempts by a section of the dissolved Election Commission, along with members of a self-appointed General Council and Executive Council, to disrupt proceedings were effectively neutralized by majority support and police presence. Concerned over the possible misuse of office infrastructure, the new Advisory Committee decided to secure the premises by handing over the keys to local police authorities until elections are held.
The meeting reaffirmed FCIK’s dedication to democratic principles and its mission to safeguard the interests of Kashmir’s industrial sector.
Among the attendees were prominent industrial estate Presidents including Shiekh Nisar Ahmad (Lassipora), Iftikhar Hussain Misgar (Anantnag), Mohsin Iqbal (Vessu), Muzaffar Ahmad (Bijbehara), Abdul Raheem Sofi (Chatpora Pulwama), Aweem Irshad (Shopian), Dawood Ahmad (Rangreth), Mohammad Ashraf Mir (Burzalla), Showkat Ahmad (Shalteng), Farooq Ahmad (Zainakote), Syed Fazal Illahi (BAMK), M.Y Techoo (Ganderbal), Mohammad Ashraf Khan (Baramulla), Javid Ahmad Bhat (Sopore), Ghulam Nabi Shah (Handwara), Mehraj-ud-Din (Kupwara), Farooq Ahmad (Rudbug Kupwara), and Ashiq Nabi Purra (Zakura).
District Presidents present included:
Ghulam Mohammad Tramboo (Anantnag), Nazir Ahmad Mir (Pulwama), Parvaiz Ahmad Malik (Kulgam), Mohammad Imran (Baramulla), and Makhmoor Gowhar (Srinagar), alongside a large number of notable entrepreneurs.
The session was initiated with opening remarks by former President Zahoor Ahmad Bhat. Mr. Shakeel Qalander later tabled the formal resolutions, which received unanimous support. (RNA)
