Srinagar, RNA,15/05/2025 – Amid dispute between two varying factions of FCIK the govt on Thursday put the proposed elections for the chamber on hold, directing election commissioner against conducting the elections on The said date. the govt has also appointed former president of the federation Shahid Kamli as the interim custodian of the prestigious industrial body. The upcoming elections for the Administrative Council of the Federation Chamber of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) have been put on hold by the Directorate of Industries and Commerce Kashmir, following a series of news articles published by RNA and other media entities, over the past few days.

The decision, detailed in a letter from the Directorate, comes in response to “various Public Notices and News Articles in the leading dailies published from Kashmir province during the recent past,” and a representation by Mr. Shahid Kamili, Head of the Advisory Committee. These communications highlighted “claims/counter claims being made by the contesting parties” and “irregularities regarding functioning of the Administrative Council/ Advisory Committee and Election Commission.”

The Directorate’s letter states that after examining the records, it was deemed necessary to “take immediate steps for ensuring that there is no disturbance of peace and public order” on the date the elections have been scheduled by you for filling up of the various positions of the Administrative Council, on 20th May, 2025.

In a significant move, the Directorate has instructed the Chief Election Commissioner to put the elections on hold until further notice. The Directorate has also requested a meeting to address the issues.

Adding further weight to the situation, the letter warns that if a notice to put the election on hold is not issued/published by 17th of May, 2025, it “shall be constrained to take custody of the FCIK building at Industrial Estate, Sanat Nagar,” constructed/established out of the funds provided by the Government, in the larger interest of the law and order and safeguarding this Government property.

The General Manager, District Industries Centre Budgam has been appointed as the Nodal Point of Contact, who shall        co-ordinate with the two factions and apprise this Directorate on daily basis about the developments and action taken in response to this letter.
