Jammu, May 11:
A soldier of the Indian Army was martyred on Saturday after being struck by a fragment of a Pakistani drone that was successfully intercepted by the Army Air Defence unit at the Udhampur air base in Jammu and Kashmir, officials confirmed.

The tragic incident occurred ahead of the official ceasefire announcement between India and Pakistan, following heightened hostilities. Tensions had escalated after Indian armed forces launched a precision missile strike on nine terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on May 7, in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack.

The soldier was on active duty at the strategically significant Udhampur air base when the Pakistani drone intrusion occurred. While the Air Defence successfully intercepted the drone mid-air, debris from the intercepted device fatally struck the soldier, causing critical injuries. He later succumbed to his wounds.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of the soldier, identified as Shri Surendra Singh Moga, a native of Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan.

“The news of the martyrdom of Shri Surendra Singh Moga ji, a son of Rajasthan, a resident of Jhunjhunu, a soldier of the Indian Army, who attained martyrdom at Udhampur Air Base while performing his duty of national security is extremely sad,” CM Sharma posted on social platform X (formerly Twitter).
