Interactive Meet with Civil Defence Volunteers Held at Dakbanglow Baramulla

Baramulla, May 17, 2025:
In a proactive move to enhance community-based disaster management, the Civil Defence Kashmir, in collaboration with the District Administration Baramulla, today hosted an interactive meet with Civil Defence Volunteers at Dakbanglow Baramulla. The event aimed to acknowledge the critical role of volunteers in emergency response and reinforce grassroots disaster preparedness across the district.

The session witnessed the presence of key dignitaries including Director Civil Defence & SDRF Kashmir Imtiyaz Hussain Mir, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Minga Sherpa, SSP Baramulla Gurindarpal Singh, Commandant SDRF 1st Battalion Srinagar Masroor Ahmad Mir, ADC Baramulla Syed Altaf Hussain Musvi, DySP HQ Baramulla Altaf Khan, DySP DAR Ajay Hans, and a large number of dedicated volunteers.

Addressing the gathering, Director Imtiyaz Hussain Mir emphasized the crucial role played by Civil Defence Volunteers during natural disasters, road accidents, and emergency situations.

“Volunteers are often the first responders. Their courage, coordination, and prompt action make a significant difference in saving lives. Strengthening them through training and recognition is our priority,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa lauded the contribution of volunteers and announced a mass enrollment campaign to induct more citizens, especially youth, into the civil defence network.

“Disaster preparedness is a collective responsibility. We urge people from all walks of life to join this noble mission,” the DC said.

He also stressed the need for extensive awareness campaigns and frequent training sessions, covering both urban and rural areas of the district, to ensure a disaster-resilient population.

Other speakers echoed similar sentiments, urging for:

  • Improved logistics and support systems for volunteers

  • Enhanced inter-departmental coordination

  • Community engagement in disaster risk reduction

The event concluded with a renewed pledge from volunteers and officials to build a safer, more prepared Baramulla through collaborative action and capacity-building efforts.
