JAMMU, April 14:
Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Cooperative, and Election Departments, Javed Ahmad Dar, today paid rich floral tributes to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, describing him as one of India’s most influential social reformers and the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, during a commemorative event held at Bari Brahmana, Samba.
The event, organized by the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Educational Society, witnessed the participation of a large gathering from Samba and surrounding areas.
Addressing the audience, the Minister stated that Ambedkar Jayanti is now widely observed as “Equality Day”, a tribute to Baba Saheb’s lifelong commitment to the rights and empowerment of women, laborers, and marginalized communities.
He emphasized that the observance serves as a powerful reminder of the core values of equality, fraternity, and justice, which continue to guide and inspire generations across India.
“Dr. Ambedkar’s fight was not limited to the upliftment of any single community—it was a crusade for the welfare of all humanity,” Dar noted in his address.
Calling for social unity, the Minister urged all sections of society to come together to combat prevailing social evils. He reaffirmed that the Omar Abdullah-led government remains committed to the inclusive development of all citizens, asserting that every resident of Jammu and Kashmir is an equal stakeholder in the government’s progress initiatives.
The event also featured notable addresses from Professor Satnam Singh (JNU), Rajni Bala, and other prominent citizens who paid tribute to Dr. Ambedkar’s immense contributions—particularly his relentless advocacy for social justice and Dalit empowerment. They described him as a multi-faceted personality, who, above all, was a pioneering social reformer.
As part of the ceremony, meritorious students excelling in academics and extracurricular pursuits were also felicitated with awards by the Minister.
Among those present from the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Educational Society were President Puran Chand, General Secretary Romesh Chander, along with Sansar Chand, Pushpa Raj, Jagdev Thappa, Chaman Khullar, Ashwani Gorkha, Manoj Kumar, Kasturi Lal, and Darshan Thappa.
