Javid Dar Inaugurates Macadamization Work at Sopore Mandi, Reviews Development Projects in Achabal

Sopore, May 14 (RNA):
In a significant boost to horticulture infrastructure in North Kashmir, Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Javid Ahmad Dar today inaugurated the macadamization work at the Fruit and Vegetable Mandi Sopore, addressing a long-standing demand of fruit growers and traders in the region.

The project, being implemented by the Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department, is estimated at ₹117.63 lakh and aims to streamline transportation and improve trading conditions within the Mandi. The upgraded surface will aid in smoother movement of produce and vehicles, thereby enhancing overall mandi efficiency.

Minister Emphasizes Welfare and Security Measures

While addressing the media, Minister Javid Dar reiterated the government’s commitment to a grower-friendly and inclusive mandi environment. He announced plans for a Labour Sarai and other welfare-oriented facilities to support the workers who are integral to the horticultural supply chain.

To bolster infrastructure and safety, he revealed that CCTV surveillance and high mast lighting will soon be installed across the premises, improving night-time operations and security.

He further disclosed that a Mega Kisan Mela will be held at Sopore Mandi shortly to raise awareness among farmers, introduce them to new technologies, and provide marketing linkages.

Inspection of Development Projects in Achabal

Later in the day, the Minister visited Achabal Sopore, where he inspected the newly constructed New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC). He instructed the concerned agency to fast-track the handover process so the health facility can be made functional at the earliest.

He emphasized that public infrastructure must be utilized efficiently and without delay so that development translates into real-time services for citizens.

The Minister was accompanied by MLA Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar, Director Horticulture Planning & Marketing, Director Animal Husbandry, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore. The team also interacted with growers, labourers, and traders during the inspection.
