  • PDP MLA from Kupwara, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, has submitted a Private Member’s Bill seeking a complete ban on liquor in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The bill, set to be introduced in the upcoming budget session of the J&K Assembly, proposes prohibition on the advertisement, sale, purchase, consumption, and manufacture of alcoholic beverages in the Union Territory.
  • Mir warned that the rising alcohol consumption poses a serious threat to society, stressing the need for strict legislation to curb the trend. The bill also proposes harsh penalties, including imprisonment and fines, for violations.

J&K Government Announces Police Transfers and Postings

Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir – 07/05/2025 – The Jammu and Kashmir government has issued an order for the immediate transfer and posting of several police officers. The order, Government Order No.: 246-Home of 2025, was issued on May 7, 2025.

According to the order, Mr. Uttam Chand, IPS, will hold the charge of IGP (Hqrs) PHQ, J&K, IG (Tech) and IG (Telecom) in addition to his own duties. This relieves M. Suleman Choudhary, IPS, of the additional charge.

Mr. Vinod Kumar, IPS, DIG Armed, Jammu, will also hold the charge of DIG IR Jammu in addition to his current role. Mohd. Arshad, JKPS Director, Home-guards, Jammu, will take on the additional charge of DIG HG/CD & SDRF, Jammu.

Several officers awaiting orders of adjustment have also been assigned new roles:

  • Mr. Hariprasad K.K., IPS, is posted as Additional SP Baramulla.
  • Mr. Kartik Shrotriya, IPS, is posted as Additional SP Anantnag, replacing Sajad Ahmad Sheikh.
  • Mr. Mukund Tibrewal, IPS, is posted as SP OPS Border & Kandi Kathua.
  • Mr. Sajad Ahmad Sheikh, Additional SP Anantnag, is transferred and posted as, SP CTC Lethpora (Vice Principal).
  • Mr. Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, Additional SP Anantnag (Over All Reserve post), is transferred and posted as, Dy.CO IR-23 vice Shri Rameez Raja.
  • Mr. Rameez Raja, Dy.CO IR-23, is transferred and posted as, Additional SP Anantnag (Over All Reserve post) vice Shri Ghulam Hassan Sheikh.

The order was issued by Principal Secretary to the Government, Chandraker Bharti, IAS.
