  • Mir warned that the rising alcohol consumption poses a serious threat to society, stressing the need for strict legislation to curb the trend. The bill also proposes harsh penalties, including imprisonment and fines, for violations.

J&K Government Nominates Mentors for Districts Amid Prevailing Situation

Srinagar, May 8, 2025: In light of the current scenario in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the government has nominated officers as Mentors for various districts. Government Order No. 572-JK(GAD) of 2025, dated 08.05.2025, issued by the General Administration Department, outlines the officers and the districts they have been assigned to.

The nominated officers and their assigned districts are as follows:

These officers will be responsible for several key functions within their assigned districts, including:

  • Visiting the assigned district as often as possible.
  • Guiding the district administration in ongoing relief, rescue, and rehabilitation operations.
  • Reviewing and ensuring the security of vital and vulnerable installations.
  • Facilitating coordination between civil administration, police, army, and other agencies of the J&K Government and the Government of India.
  • Reviewing and ensuring the availability of essential services such as drinking water, electricity, communication, and road connectivity.
  • Reviewing and ensuring the availability of essential commodities like food grains, vegetables, and petroleum/diesel and LPG etc.
  • Resolving issues faced by the district administration and flagging them to concerned departments in the Civil Secretariat and the Office of the Chief Secretary, if required.

The order was issued by the Lieutenant Governor.
