SRINAGAR | June 10, 2025
Jammu and Kashmir has become the first region in India to receive formal approval under Phase-IV of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-IV). Under Batch-I, a total of 316 rural road projects have been sanctioned, covering a total of 1781 kilometers, with an overall investment of ₹4224.23 crore.
This is the largest-ever road connectivity package sanctioned for the UT, and will benefit 390 remote habitations, each with a population exceeding 250. The move is expected to greatly enhance access to basic services, economic opportunities, and regional integration.
Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Rural Development Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan for this significant infrastructure boost. He described it as a transformative initiative that will bring long-awaited prosperity to far-flung areas.
Sharing the news on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), LG Sinha stated:
“Grateful to Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji & Hon’ble Union Minister of Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan Ji for sanctioning 316 road projects under PMGSY-IV for J&K. This is the biggest ever package for the UT, covering 1781 km and connecting 390 habitations.”
This massive investment is set to reshape the rural landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, creating faster routes, better access to healthcare and education, and a stronger foundation for economic growth in underdeveloped regions.
