Tangmarg, May 2 (RNA):
The Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF), led by Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani, has voiced serious concern over what it calls the systematic plundering of Tangmarg’s natural resources and administrative neglect that has led to a severe civic and ecological crisis in the region.

In a strongly worded statement, JKCSF highlighted the ongoing diversion of water from Nallah Ferozpora, once the lifeline of Tangmarg and its adjoining areas, as a grave injustice to the local population. Despite the December 2024 water crisis, which left nearly 60% of villages in Sub-Division Gulmarg parched, authorities have failed to take corrective action, the forum said.

Chairman Qayoom Wani warned, “Stop the loot of natural resources in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in Tangmarg, or be ready to face public wrath.” He accused the Irrigation & Flood Control and Jal Shakti Departments of inaction, stating that their negligence has directly contributed to deteriorating living conditions.

The forum raised the alarm over the rising consumption of untreated water, affecting over 90% of the local population, leading to a surge in water-borne diseases. Additionally, basic infrastructure—roads, schools, and healthcare—remain underdeveloped or poorly maintained, with youth facing unemployment and hopelessness.

JKCSF, in collaboration with J&K Pensioners United Front, has demanded an immediate probe into:

  • Who authorized the drainage of Nallah Ferozpora to outside areas?

  • Why have local drinking and irrigation concerns been ignored?

  • Why is the population still forced to consume unsafe, untreated water?

They called for a halt to water diversion, restoration of irrigation and drinking water facilities, a medical response teamto address disease outbreaks, and accountability from concerned departments. The forum warned that mass protests and public mobilization could follow if the demands are not met
