Labour Day 2025: JKCSF & JKPUF Urge Immediate Enforcement of Labour Rights Across J&K
Srinagar, May 1:
On the occasion of International Labour Day 2025, the Jammu & Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) and the J&K Pensioners United Front (JKPUF), led by Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani, raised serious concerns over the continued exploitation of workers in both the public and private sectors across Jammu and Kashmir.
Chairman Wani expressed deep anguish over the non-implementation of the Minimum Wages Act, stating that it is the only way to ensure justice for the working class. He highlighted the plight of contingent-paid employees earning less than ₹1,000 per month, and private school teachers, many of whom are highly qualified but underpaid.
He further added that skilled and unskilled labourers in the private sector are being treated like bonded workers, often forced to work in inhumane conditions, while the Labour Department remains inactive. Wani condemned the administration’s failure to provide justice to thousands of casual labourers who lost their lives during hazardous duties, and who remain uncompensated under SRO-43.
JKCSF and JKPUF strongly demanded:
-
Immediate implementation of Minimum Wages Act in all sectors (government, public, and private)
-
Regularization of workers’ services
-
Fair pay and financial justice to all categories of employees
-
Compensation to bereaved families of deceased workers
-
Strict action against exploitative employers
-
Establishment of a dedicated Grievance Redressal Cell for workers’ issues
Wani urged the government to treat this Labour Day as a turning point for restoring dignity, justice, and protection to the working class of Jammu & Kashmir.
