SRINAGAR, April 29:
Mission Director (MD), Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) Jammu and Kashmir, Khurshid Ahmad Shah, today chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the implementation progress of water supply projects under JJM in Kupwara district.

A detailed presentation was given during the meeting, highlighting the current status of the Mission in the region. Kupwara comprises 355 villages and 1,56,179 rural households, out of which 1,29,755 households have so far been provided with Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs).

Stressing the urgency of universal coverage, the MD directed officials to accelerate execution so that the remaining 26,000 households are provided FHTCs at the earliest.

The meeting also noted setbacks due to failure of nine bore wells caused by insufficient discharge. The Executive Engineer, Ground Water Division, Srinagar informed that a Letter of Intent has been issued, and contractors have begun mobilizing machinery. The MD instructed him to personally monitor the bore well drilling, in coordination with the Superintending Engineer concerned.

Reviewing the General Service Reservoirs (GSRs) in the Keran sector, the MD questioned the delay in execution. Officials assured that work allotments are complete and on-ground execution will begin within a week, weather permitting.

The MD also stressed the need for certification of Har Ghar Jal (HGJ) reported villages, expressing concern that many villages listed as having achieved HGJ status remain uncertified. He directed the Superintending Engineer, Hydraulic Circle Kupwara, to closely monitor and expedite the certification process.

The meeting was attended by Executive Engineers, AEEs, JEs, and officers from the Mechanical wing, with some joining through virtual mode.
