Minister Sakeena Itoo Mourns Handwara Tragedy, Directs SKIMS to Monitor Injured Students

SRINAGAR, April 12, 2025:
Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, has expressed deep sorrow and anguish over the tragic road accident in Handwara that claimed the life of a young and promising student, Tabassum Mushtaq, and left several others injured.

While reacting to the heart-wrenching incident, the Minister said:

“My heart goes out to the family of Tabassum who lost her precious life in this tragic accident. This is an irreparable loss, and I pray to Almighty to grant strength and patience to the bereaved family.”

Minister Itoo further directed top health officials to ensure the best possible medical treatment is provided to the injured students. She specifically instructed:

  • Director SKIMS to personally monitor the condition and treatment of the critically injured students admitted to the facility.

  • Principal GMC Handwara, Director Health Services Kashmir, and CMO Kupwara to supervise and ensure immediate and effective treatment of all injured.

Additionally, the Minister urged the administrations of all concerned hospitals to prioritize medical care for the accident victims and to offer full support to both the patients and their families.

“Timely intervention and compassionate care are crucial in such tragedies. Every injured child is our responsibility,” she emphasized.
