GULMARG | JUNE 11:
In a significant move to revitalize tourism in Gulmarg, MLA Farooq Ahmad Shah chaired a high-level meeting with tourism officials, local authorities, and stakeholders at Gulmarg Club to finalize strategies for the upcoming season.

The MLA announced that the Gulmarg Festival will be held in August, featuring cultural and adventure activities such as horse riding, cycling, and the Lupine Flower Festival, aimed at showcasing the scenic charm and vibrant culture of Gulmarg.

He emphasized that the Hon’ble Chief Minister is fully backing the revival of tourism in Kashmir, with a dedicated delegation soon to visit key Indian cities to promote the region and boost visitor numbers.

As part of preparations, Mr. Shah directed the Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) and municipal officials to ensure enhanced cleanliness and beautification, positioning Gulmarg as a premier destination.

He highlighted the significance of the Gulmarg Gondola and Golf Course, calling them key drivers of local tourism and economic development. Notably, he announced the reopening of the Gulmarg Golf Course on June 24, marking its operational comeback after a 10-year gap, with a State Golf Championship to commence the same day.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Shah also flagged off a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” rally, followed by a cleanliness drive, aimed at promoting a drug-free, healthy environment and community engagement.

Encouraging youth involvement, he said, “We invite students and young people to explore Gulmarg. It’s not only a visual delight but also a learning experience that helps uplift the local economy.”

The meeting was attended by top tourism officials including the MD of Cable Car Corporation, CEO of Gulmarg, SDM Gulmarg, AD Tourism, Executive Officer of MC Tangmarg, and members of the Hotelier Association Gulmarg.
