GULMARG, April 29:
In a major push towards promoting sustainable agriculture and self-reliant rural development, MLA Gulmarg Farooq Ahmad Shah on Monday inaugurated a Mushroom Cultivation Centre at Rawanpora village and a High-Tech Polyhouse Unit at Duroo village under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), an initiative of the Agriculture Department.

These projects aim to empower local farmers, especially the youth, by introducing modern, income-generating farming techniques in the region.

Affordable Mushroom Farming for Rural Empowerment

The Mushroom Cultivation Unit at Rawanpora is designed as a low-investment, high-return model, where growers contribute just ₹3,000, while the rest is supported by the Agriculture Department. Officials said that each cultivation cycle could yield profits of up to ₹40,000, offering a lucrative opportunity for rural households to enhance their income.

High-Tech Polyhouse for Climate-Resilient Farming

At Duroo, the state-of-the-art polyhouse is equipped with climate control systems, allowing round-the-year cultivation of various crops. The unit is expected to increase productivity, extend growing seasons, and improve crop quality, aligning with the government’s focus on climate-resilient agriculture.

MLA Calls for Self-Reliant Gulmarg

Addressing the gathering, MLA Farooq Ahmad Shah highlighted the significance of adopting modern farming practices.

“We want to make Gulmarg constituency self-reliant in agriculture. These initiatives will create local job opportunities and help our youth become entrepreneurs,” he said.
He further emphasized that community involvement and government support are key to transforming Gulmarg into a model of rural development and economic sustainability.

Fire-Affected Families in Pinjoora Receive Support

Later in the day, the MLA visited Pinjoora village, where several families had suffered losses in a recent fire incident. Accompanied by Revenue Department officials, Shah assured the victims of timely relief and rehabilitation support from the administration.
