  • PDP MLA from Kupwara, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, has submitted a Private Member’s Bill seeking a complete ban on liquor in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The bill, set to be introduced in the upcoming budget session of the J&K Assembly, proposes prohibition on the advertisement, sale, purchase, consumption, and manufacture of alcoholic beverages in the Union Territory.
  • Mir warned that the rising alcohol consumption poses a serious threat to society, stressing the need for strict legislation to curb the trend. The bill also proposes harsh penalties, including imprisonment and fines, for violations.

Bandipora Feb 18: The Member of Legislative Assembly for Sonawari Constituency Advocate Hilal Akbar Lone on Tuesday conducted an extensive tour of various areas of sumbal sub division to assess the preparation ahead of irrigation season.

The MLA accompanied by Exen I&FC Sumbal, Mutayib Bashir, ExEn MID Shadipora and other concerned visited various areas including MID Shadipora, wasikhan, prang, Asham, Madwan, rakhi Hajin and other areas.

The visit was aimed to ensure that irrigation facilities are adequately prepared and equipped to meet the demands of the coming season.
During the visit, MLA Hilal Akbar Lone discussed the progress of irrigation infrastructure, assessed the condition of canals and water distribution systems, besides interacted with locals and officials to address any concerns or challenges.

He urged the concerned departments to take proactive measures for maintaining irrigation system throughout the season and emphasized the importance of timely and efficient irrigation facilities to support agriculture and the livelihood of  farmers.
