Srinagar | April 7, 2025:
In a scathing attack, Former Minister and J&K Peoples Conference (JKPC) General Secretary Molvi Imran Reza Ansari has accused the National Conference (NC) of colluding with the BJP to quietly allow the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2025, which has sparked outrage among sections of Jammu & Kashmir’s Muslim population.

Calling it a “fixed match” between NC and BJP, Ansari stated,

“This was a scripted drama, played at the cost of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. Their rights were traded away behind closed doors while the public was distracted.”

He pointed to a symbolic moment that, according to him, exposed the double standards of the ruling party.

“While a bill that threatens the core of Muslim religious institutions in J&K was being pushed, where were the leaders of NC? Smiling in Tulip Gardens with Kiren Rijiju — the very Union Minister who tabled the Waqf Bill in Parliament.”

Ansari questioned the NC leadership’s silence and inaction, especially during a time when collective resistance was expected from representatives of a Muslim-majority region.

“While the rights of their own people were being undermined, these so-called defenders of Kashmir were busy with photo ops. But as the Quran says: ‘They plan, and Allah plans — and Allah is the best of planners.’ (Quran 8:30)

Further criticizing the procedural blocks inside the Assembly, he pointed out that

“The Speaker — a Muslim himself, in a Muslim-majority Assembly — did not allow even a discussion on the Waqf Amendment Bill. What more proof do we need of complicity?”

He added that while the bill was pushed through in Muslim-minority states, it ironically faced no real opposition in a region where the majority population is Muslim.

Ansari ended with a sharp warning to the ruling party:

“When history judges this betrayal, no flower garden photo-op will erase the stain. The people of J&K will remember who stood for them and who staged dramas for political convenience.”
