• Bill Seeking Ban on Alcohol in J&K to be Introduced in Assembly
  • PDP MLA from Kupwara, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, has submitted a Private Member’s Bill seeking a complete ban on liquor in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The bill, set to be introduced in the upcoming budget session of the J&K Assembly, proposes prohibition on the advertisement, sale, purchase, consumption, and manufacture of alcoholic beverages in the Union Territory.
  • Mir warned that the rising alcohol consumption poses a serious threat to society, stressing the need for strict legislation to curb the trend. The bill also proposes harsh penalties, including imprisonment and fines, for violations.

Partial Reopening of Schools in Jammu Division Commences Tomorrow

Jammu, May 14, 2025 – The Directorate of School Education, Jammu (DSEJ), has announced a partial reopening of schools (both government and private) within the Jammu division effective tomorrow, May 15, 2025.

According to an official order, while all schools will be ready to welcome students, some located in close proximity to the International Border and the Line of Control will remain closed as a precautionary measure.

The districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch will see a differentiated reopening based on zones.

  • In the Jammu district, schools in the zones of Chowki Choura, Bhalwal, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, and Purmandal will reopen. However, schools in Bishnah, R.S. Pura, Miran Sahib, Satwari, Nagrota, Akhnoor, and Khour will remain closed.
  • For the Samba district, schools in Purmandal and Vijaypur zones will reopen, while those in Samba, Ramgarh, and Ghagwal will remain closed.
  • In the Kathua district, zones with reopening schools include Barnoti, Lakhanpur, Dinga Amb, Ghagwal, and Kathua. Schools in Manjakote, Dingla, Nowshera, Dandesar, Sunderbani, Rajouri, and Bajalta will remain closed.
  • The Rajouri district will see schools reopen in Peeri, Kalakote, Thanamandi, Brehvi, Kotranka, Khawas, Lote, and Darhal zones. Schools in Mankote, Mendhar, Balakote, Harni, Manjakote, Mangal, Kaluyian, Sagra, and Poonch will remain closed.
  • For the Poonch district, only schools in the Surankote and Buffliaz zones will reopen. The rest of the zones, including Mankote, Mendhar, Balakote, Harni, Nangali, Mandi, Kaluyian, Salotri, and Poonch, will remain closed.

The DSEJ has conveyed their best wishes to all students as schools prepare to resume academic activities in the designated zones.
