  • PDP MLA from Kupwara, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, has submitted a Private Member’s Bill seeking a complete ban on liquor in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The bill, set to be introduced in the upcoming budget session of the J&K Assembly, proposes prohibition on the advertisement, sale, purchase, consumption, and manufacture of alcoholic beverages in the Union Territory.
  • Mir warned that the rising alcohol consumption poses a serious threat to society, stressing the need for strict legislation to curb the trend. The bill also proposes harsh penalties, including imprisonment and fines, for violations.

Police arrested 2 drug peddlers in Baramulla; Contraband substance recovered

Baramulla, Feb 16: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Baramulla and recovered contraband substance from their possession.

A Police party of Police Station Boniyar headed by SHO PS Boniyar at a checkpoint established at Bernate, Boniyar intercepted two persons who were identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir son of Ab Ahad resident of Bernate and Nadeem Ahmad Thokar son of Gh Rasool resident of Kalantra Bala Kreeri. During search, 14 grams of contraband charas like substances was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested.The two wheeler has also been seized from the spot.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Boniyar and investigation has been initiated.

People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law.
