RAJOURI, May 14 (RNA):
President of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Tariq Hameed Karra has raised serious concern over the condition of border residents affected by recent ceasefire violations, urging the government to initiate relief and rehabilitation measures on a war footing.

Karra emphasized that immediate ex-gratia disbursement and housing rehabilitation must be prioritized, especially for families whose homes have been rendered uninhabitable.

Congress Team Visits Hospitals, Affected Villages, and Border Camps

A high-level Congress delegation, led by Karra and including Working President Raman Bhalla, Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, AICC Secretary Neeraj Kundan, MLA Iftikhar Ahmed, and several DDC members, visited Rajouri GMC Hospital to meet the injured. The team also toured Thannamandi, Manjakote (LOC), Rajouri, and Nowshera constituencies, inspecting damage and interacting with displaced residents in border migrant camps.

A prayer-cum-review meeting was held earlier at Dak Bungalow Rajouri to mourn the martyrdom of ADDC Dr. Raj Kumar Thapa and others. A two-minute silence was observed in remembrance, and five urgent and long-term measures were proposed to address the crisis.

Key Demands: Compensation, Bunkers & Central Package

Karra called for immediate compensation for loss of lives, houses, vehicles, crops, and livestock. He reiterated the need for a special central package, both for monetary compensation and recruitment drives in paramilitary forces, particularly targeting border youth.

He further demanded the construction of community and individual bunkers across the Rajouri-Poonch belt, which remains highly vulnerable to shelling. “The border population can only be protected through permanent, well-equipped infrastructure,” Karra stated.

Rahul Gandhi in Touch, Monitoring Border Situation

Karra revealed that Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has been personally concerned about the plight of border people and is receiving daily feedback. “He spoke to me today during the field visit and is actively monitoring the situation,” Karra added. He also supported Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s demand for a special Parliament session and an all-party meeting to discuss the situation.

Bhalla, Other Leaders Raise Alarm Over Humanitarian Crisis

Congress Working President Raman Bhalla termed Rajouri and Poonch as the worst-hit districts, demanding PM-led intervention for a comprehensive package that includes relief, rehabilitation, and recruitment for affected residents.

Prominent leaders present included Iqbal Shawl, Prof. Lalit Mahajan, Junaid Adv, Ashok Sharma, Shakeel Mir, Sushil Sharma, Khursheed Janam, Rajesh Bittu, Amit Sayal, and others.
