Rana Advocates Mandatory Bunkers in Border Areas to Protect Civilian Lives

Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Environment & Ecology and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, has called for mandatory construction of bunkers in all border villages to safeguard residents from frequent cross-border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC).

Speaking during his second consecutive visit to shelling-affected areas in Mendhar, Rana emphasized the urgent need for permanent protective structures to prevent civilian casualties and loss of livestock and property.

“Mandatory bunkers will go a long way in ensuring the safety and survival of the vulnerable border population,” Rana stated while interacting with victim families.

The Minister personally assessed the damage to homes, livestock, and public infrastructure caused by recent shelling incidents. He expressed deep concern over the hardships faced by the residents and assured full government support.

Following his tour, Rana held a high-level review meeting with Sub-Divisional Officers and directed them to:

  • Prepare a detailed restoration plan for damaged infrastructure.

  • Ensure immediate relief and compensation to affected families.

  • Restore essential public services without delay.

  • Maintain direct engagement with the affected population.

Rana also instructed officials to demonstrate maximum sensitivity and dedication towards helping impacted communities and to expedite relief efforts with a human-centric approach.

“Officers must rise to the occasion and show full commitment to public service by ensuring swift compensation and concrete assistance,” he added.

The Minister reiterated the government’s resolve to stand by the border residents and ensure that both short-term reliefand long-term security measures, like bunkers, are implemented on a priority basis.
