Refrain from Live Coverage of Defence Operations in National Interest
Jammu & Kashmir | May 9, 2025:
All media houses, digital platforms, journalists, and social media users are strongly advised to avoid live or real-time reporting of defence operations and troop movements in Jammu & Kashmir and across the nation. The advisory comes in the backdrop of escalating cross-border tensions and ongoing anti-terror actions by the Indian Armed Forces.
The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has reminded all stakeholders that disclosing sensitive operational details or unverified source-based reports may compromise national security and put lives at risk.
Citing past incidents such as the Kargil War, 26/11 Mumbai Attacks, and the Kandahar Hijacking, the government emphasized how premature media exposure of strategic information can hamper operations and benefit hostile actors.
As per Clause 6(1)(p) of the Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2021, only periodic briefings by authorized officials are permitted during anti-terror or military operations.
All media outlets, journalists, influencers, and individuals are urged to:
-
Avoid broadcasting real-time troop movement or visuals from active zones.
-
Verify any information strictly from official sources before sharing.
-
Maintain editorial discretion and show utmost sensitivity in reporting.
The nation’s security and operational integrity must remain above TRPs and digital clout. Media is expected to play a constructive and responsible role in safeguarding national interest.
🇮🇳 India calls for unity, restraint, and journalistic responsibility during these sensitive times.
