• Bill Seeking Ban on Alcohol in J&K to be Introduced in Assembly
  • PDP MLA from Kupwara, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, has submitted a Private Member’s Bill seeking a complete ban on liquor in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The bill, set to be introduced in the upcoming budget session of the J&K Assembly, proposes prohibition on the advertisement, sale, purchase, consumption, and manufacture of alcoholic beverages in the Union Territory.
  • Mir warned that the rising alcohol consumption poses a serious threat to society, stressing the need for strict legislation to curb the trend. The bill also proposes harsh penalties, including imprisonment and fines, for violations.

Kulgam, May 1:
In a significant step towards boosting rural healthcare infrastructure, Minister for Health, Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, inaugurated the Shaheed Wali Mohammad Itoo Memorial Sub-District Hospital (SDH) at D.H. Pora and the New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) at Ahmadabad, Kulgam.

The Rs 11 crore SDH project, constructed by the Police Housing Corporation, is expected to cater to a large population of the rural belt, addressing long-pending healthcare needs and enhancing access to quality medical services. The NTPHC at Ahmadabad further strengthens the primary healthcare setup in the region.

While addressing the gathering, Minister Sakeena Itoo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to equitable health services, particularly in rural and remote areas. She stated that the Omar Abdullah-led government remains focused on public welfare, and emphasized the need to accommodate a 30-bed Ayush facility within the newly inaugurated SDH.

Locals welcomed the initiatives and expressed gratitude for the government’s proactive efforts to uplift the region’s health and wellness standards.

Later, the Minister also visited the Martyr Sabzar Ahmad Shah Memorial Girls High School at Ahmadabad, where she interacted with students and staff. She reiterated the government’s resolve to ensure quality education in every part of Jammu and Kashmir.

The event was attended by the Director of School Education, Director Health, Director Coordination New GMCs, Director ICDS, and other senior officers.
